Personal Introduction

I am Janey Brown, born and bred in Forres. I am very pleased to be able to offer Remedial Massage at Healthworks. I trained at Moray College as a complementary therapist with advanced remedial massage at HND level, and I also practise manual lymphatic drainage.

I became interested in healing when I discovered the intense effects that stress can have on the body over a long period of time. Whether emotional stress, or physical stress from illness, each cause the body to become vulnerable due to its weakened state. Complementary and Alternative Therapies (CAM) allow relief from the stressor by providing emotional and physiological strength, and relieving physical tension developed from the stressor.

I was attracted to these therapies due to their deep healing properties, emotionally and physiologically, as well as physically. I consider each client’s individual needs and then establish how I can adapt each treatment to suit their needs. This will give each client an increased sense of well-being, as well as physical relief from their complaints, and so encourage profound healing.

I am registered and insured by the Complementary Therapists Association (CThA).

About Remedial Massage

Remedial massage is a technique used to manipulate soft tissue and muscular tissue in order to bring comfort, pain relief and normality to the body. Deep massage techniques, alongside in-depth anatomy and physiology knowledge, allow massage, specific to the clients needs, to be carried out.

It will soften tight muscular tissue and also the sensitive trigger points deep within muscles that refer pain to other areas within the body. Many people report headaches that are commonly caused by tight muscles in the neck, head and shoulders. Muscles stabilise the body and move joints and so when injured or strained, a great deal of pain and discomfort can be experienced.

An initial consultation with a remedial massage therapist followed by a series of massage treatments will work to correct the clients’ own needs and help return them to normality.

Remedial massage can treat muscular injury, strain and tension of any muscle in the body, but also repetitive strain injuries (RSI), stress, neck and shoulder ache, headaches, numb or tingling sensation in the limbs, stiffness in the muscles, increase in limited range of movement, and postural, structural and alignment discomfort.

Aftercare and home-care advice are given following each treatment. This may include stretches to further posture correction or ease muscular tension, increased water intake, rest, exercises, or referral to a medical professional for further treatment.
