“In the healthy human state, the spirit-like life force...governs without restriction...so that the...spirit can freely avail itself of this living, healthy instrument for the higher purposes of our existence.”
Dr Samuel Hahnemann, Founder of Homeopathy
What is Homeopathy?
The roots of homeopathy go back to the days of Hippocrates (around 400 BC), whilst the discovery of homeopathy is attributed to Dr Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1842) who formulated the principles of homeopathy and prepared, tried and tested a large proportion of remedies which are still used today. Homeopathy is based on clinical experience that any substance which produces a set of symptoms in a healthy person can similarly cure a sick person with a similar set of symptoms. To give a simple illustration: A healthy person who chops onions usually gets watery eyes. It follows therefore that a sick person with hay fever with the main symptom being runny eyes could benefit from the homeopathic remedy Allium Cepa (onion in latin). Homeopathic remedies are made from natural sources such as plants and minerals as well as other substances. Because of the way that homeopathic remedies are prepared they are completely safe to use by everyone including babies and pregnant women. Homeopathy can be used as a complement to conventional medical treatment and sometimes as an alternative.
What Homeopathy can help with
Homeopathy is a complete system of medicine (surgery aside!). It treats the symptoms and not the disease. There is hence no need for physical symptoms. Just feeling stressed is enough. Homeopathy can also be great as a preventative to avoid pathology developing. Most people, however, seek out homeopathy for recognised conditions. According to the British Homeopathic Association, the most commonly seen conditions at the NHS homeopathic hospitals in the UK are eczema, depression, anxiety, cough, menopausal symptoms, chronic fatigue syndrome, catarrh, osteoarthritis, irritable bowel syndrome, hay fever, upper respiratory tract infection, rheumatoid arthritis, asthma, multiple sclerosis, allergy, fibromyalgia, migraine, Crohn’s disease, premenstrual syndrome, chronic rhinitis, headache and vitiligo. The range of conditions that people seek out homeopathic treatment for is broad.
Children usually respond particularly well to homeopathy. Homeopathic remedies can be used all the way from infancy. During the common childhood illnesses, remedies can palliate the symptoms, reduce the duration of the illness and generally support the child. After antibiotics, homeopathy can be used to boost the child’s immunity reducing the risk of another infection. Homeopathy can also help children with all sorts of emotional issues as well as behavioural disorders. The great thing is that there are no side-effects from homeopathy.
Please just enquire if you want to find out whether homeopathy could be suitable for you or your child.
What to expect from a Homeopathic treatment?
A disease is a label for a certain set of symptoms. But given the same disease, each person presents different symptoms. All of us react differently when we are unwell, both on an emotional and physical level. This is where homeopathy differs. It is the uniqueness of the symptoms which will point to the best homeopathic treatment. This is why a homeopathic consultation may not just focus on the complaint itself. It tends to be broader. Homeopathy is a holistic treatment, meaning it takes into account the whole person - body, mind and spirit. When a holistic approach is adopted, big things can happen, harmony can be restored and we can be set free to live to our highest potential...
